I About Wenzhou University
Wenzhou University (WZU), nestled within green mountains and blue waterways in the beautiful coastal city of Wenzhou in southern Zhejiang province, is a dynamic and comprehensive regional university. Its history can be traced back to 1933 when Wenzhou Normal University was founded by Mr. Huang Suchu, a renowned industrialist.
WZU has 17 colleges under its umbrella. With 48 postgraduate programs (two of them are professional programs) and 57 graduate programs, WZU has 21 majors ranking in top 100 and 15 majors ranking in the top 50 across China. On discipline front, we have 9 first-tier provincial disciplines, among which chemistry ranks the top 1% in ESI global discipline ranking list. Right now, WZU has 2 national featured disciplines, one national comprehensive reform pilot for discipline, 5 pilots for Outstanding Engineering Education Plan authorized by MOE (Ministry of Education), 29 provincially renowned disciples with international features. WZU ranks the top 38% in terms of postgraduate education according to a professional evaluation of China’s postgraduate education.
WZU has 14,220 students and 1,888 teaching staffs (among them, 1069 are full-time teachers). WZU is home to a spectrum of excellent talents,include:awardeesofNational Ten Thousand People Plan,Chang Jiang Scholarship,National Excellent Youth Science Foundatio, Recruitment Program of Global Experts,National Outstanding Mid-aged Experts,National Outstanding Youth Science Foundation,Outstanding Mid-aged Experts,Hundred, Thousand, Ten Thousand Talents Projects,New Century Talent Support Plan ofMinistry of Education(MOE), etc.
In recent three years, WZU’s teachers have undertaken 168 national scientific research projects and 257 province-level projects. Among 168 national projects, 9 Science & Engineering projects are funded by the Natural Science Foundation of China(NSFC), Projects of International Cooperation and Exchanges NSFC, the Key Project of Natural Science Foundation of China and Major Research Plan of the National Natural Science Foundation of China,while 4 projects in the field of humanities& social science are funded by the Natural Science Foundation of China. WZU has been conferred with a portfolio such as one first price and two second prices of Scientific Research Excellence (Science and Technology) Award, one second price and two third prices of Scientific Research Excellence (Science and Technology) Award given by MOE, not to mention more than 30 awards of its kind above provincial level. All this render WZU take leads in Zhejiang Province.
